"Haha wa Kanshii"
The professor of the contemporary Japanese culture class that Will TAs for provided the following Japanese sentence and English translation: Haha wa kanashii. My mother makes me sad. -NOT- My mother is sad. Fumiko and I disagree that this is an appropriate translation, but on our way home from Davis yesterday I finally figured out why the professor makes this argument.
